Our group is well equipped for a variety of experimental approaches in molecular biology, biochemistry, and biophysics. In addition to standard laboratory space and our own equipment room, we have access to LMB common tissue culture rooms, cold rooms, dark rooms, and equipment rooms. Our group share many instruments with the Craigie group, and additional equipment is available for our use as LMB common equipment. In addition, we closely collaborate with other groups in LMB and LCP for structural studies involving X-ray crystallography and NMR techniques, and for physicochemical measurements of macromolecular interactions. In addition to standard laboratory equipment, currently available equipment includes:
Fermentor for large scale expression of proteins in E. coli
Protein Purification Chromatography Systems (Biopilot, 3 FPLC systems, 3 Smart
Systems)
HPLC Systems for oligonucleotide purification and a variety of analytical experiments
(3 standard HPLCs, a microbore system)
Plasmid Mini-prep Robot
Capillary Electrophoresis System
Biacore 2000
Atomic Force Microscope
Protein Sequencer
Fuji BAS2000 Phosphor Imaging System
CCD Image Capturing Systems
Fluorescence Spectrometer with a CCD detector
Circular Dichroism
Atomic Adsorption
Glove Box
Epi-fluorescence Microscope
SGI Work Station
In addition, a super-high sensitivity multi-color fluorescence
microscope system with multiple intensified high-speed CCD cameras is currently
under development for single-molecule study of macromolecular assembly processes
(see Single Molecule Research Update).
DNA synthesizer
Fermentor for large scale insect cell culture
Molecular Dynamics Phosporimager
MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometer
Light Scattering Instruments
Microcalorimetor (titrating)
